Rasheda Begum's rise from rags to richesRasheda Begum is a member of Sonakatia Bittahin Mahila Group. Her husband is a
carpenter. Her family consists of six members. She has two sons and two
daughters. Rasheda Begum became a member of Sonakatia Bittahin Mahila dall in
2000 under a Poverty Alleviation Program conducted by BRDB named PADABIC. She
took a loan of four thousand Taka for the first time. She added some of her
money with this amount and bought a milk cow. By selling milk she managed to
repay the loan timely. Later she took a ten thousand Taka loan and bought
another cow and a calf. Then sold milk and looked after the calf. When the calf
is grown up, she sold it on the occasion of Eidul Azha. In this way she sold
three calves and brought solvency within six years. Now Rasheda lives in a
house, which is made of corrugated iron sheet instead of a straw house in which
she lived six years ago. Her children are now admitted into a school. She has
set up a sanitary latrine and a tube well in her house. She is trained up now.
She knows the rules and regulations of health. Once, Rasheda was in want of food
but now she takes nutritious food with her family. At present she plays an
important role in the society as a development worker.
